Independent Record Labels vs. Major Labels

Independent record labels are pretty self explained.

As the name states they are independent.

You might say, " But what is it that they are independent of? "

To that I would answer that they are independent of the major hip hop record labels. Leaving them to fend for themselves when it comes to marketing, promotion, and distribution.

In many cases though, these independent labels end up striking up agreements with a bigger hip hop record label so that they can get some international recognition for their artists.

Major record labels tend to have a lot more money and distribution options to toy with. When it comes to the majors these little independents are tiny bugs incapable of competing.

That is until they find that one artist who is a vein of oil waiting to gush out in a geyser.
