Beatboxing, The Instrument That Goes Where You Go
Never heard of beatboxing? It is the art of making music with your mouth.
Generally, it's more percussion than anything but it can also include singing and other various sound effects a person can make with their mouth. Basically, if you can make a sound in a rhythmic interval then you can beatbox. Although, it definitely gets far more complex than the simplicity of the above statement. There are beatboxers that can sing and make the beat at the same time!!
Needless to say that takes a degree of skill rarely possessed unless practiced a lot. Pioneered by more known artists such as Doug E. Fresh and Rahzel, the art in and of itself isn't all that mainstream. You generally don't hear beatboxers jamming out on your favorite radio station. Which is why I've included it here.
Regardless of its lack of mainstream presence there are a number of talented individuals out there who are highly skilled in this unique craft. Joel Turner first started to gain some attention when he appeared on auditions of Australia's version of American Idol.
Blake Lewis is also a talented singer and beatboxer who's big break was on American Idol as well.Human beatboxing has stretched from its humble hip hop origins to include many various sounds and genres.
To me though, the art is essentially hip hop. Which is why it is referred to as the fifth element of hip hop. So take some time to explore the artists we have compiled here for a more in depth view on the various aspects and sounds that art has to offer.
Put Your Ears in the Ring with these Beatboxers!
